Week #30- $50 Weekly Menu

Week #30 Grocery Notes: Summertime is probably one of the easiest times of year to maintain the grocery budget, with fruits and veggies in abundance, it’s simple to find great deals on produce. Cherries are finally in season and Aldi’s had them for $2. a pound, the cheapest I’ve seen them in ages. Although we didn’t need it, I did pick up another bag of flour and sugar for baking. The heat still has not dropped from triple digits and with the the heat index hitting 112 or more several times in the last week and predicted for this week as well, chances are good we won’t be eating very heavy meals.

This weeks groceries came to a whopping $56. but included Steaks, Raisin toast, Milk, Cantaloupe, Salad items, Fresh Cherries, mushrooms, Potatoes, sugar, flour, strawberries, bananas, 3 boxes of Cereal, 2 pounds of deli ham, cheese, bread, couple bags of chips, sour cream, cream cheese, tortillas.

What can I say, when you bring the spouse shopping, you’re gonna spend more than you wanted- it’s a fact folks!

July 25th- July 31st

Monday July 25th:

* Breakfast: Cereal
* Lunch: Chicken Wraps
* Dinner: Marinated Steak Strips, Grilled Onions, Mushrooms & Green Peppers, Baked Potato week-30-50-weekly-menu

Tuesday July 25th:

* Breakfast: Cinnamon Apple Cherry Cheese Ball & Apple Slices, Raisin Toast
* Lunch: Strawberry Melon Summer Salad
* Dinner: Tacos (taco meat, lettuce, tomato, shredded cheese, jalepeno slices, black olives, sour cream)

Wednesday July 27th:

* Breakfast: Strawberry Melon Summer Salad
* Lunch: Ham & Cheese Sandwiches, if anyone feels like eating
* Dinner: 7 Layer ramen Salad, Grilled BBQ Spareribs

Thursday July 28th

* Breakfast: Poached Eggs on Toast
* Lunch: Leftover 7 Layer Ramen Salad
* Dinner: Homemade Mac & Cheese with Ham & Broccoli

July 29th:

* Breakfast: Scrambled Eggs, Toast
* Lunch: Leftover Ham/Mac & Cheese
* Dinner: Chicken Broccoli Stir Fry, Jasmine rice

Saturday July 30th:

* Breakfast: French Toast, Bacon, Homefries
* Lunch: Leftover Ham/Mac & Cheese or stir fry
* Dinner: Marinated Beef Kebabs, Grilled Taters-n-onions (Foil Pack!)

Sunday July 31st:

* Breakfast: Maple Almond Scone Bites with vanilla glaze (from the freezer!)
* Lunch: Tuna Pasta Salad, Sliced Tomatoes from the Garden
* Dinner: Grilled Cheeseburgers, Grilled Garlic Summer Squash Spears

Various Snacks & Dessert Items:

* Ranch Fiesta Dip& Chips
* Fresh Fruit- banana’s, berries, Apples
* Pickled Eggs
* Hard Cheese (Jalapeno Pepper Jack, Sharp Cheddar), Crackers
* Watermelon & Cantaloupe (watermelon is leftover from last week)
* Strawberry Jello Cake

Drinks included:

* Iced Tea (Sweet Tea)
* Coffee
* Lemonade
* Copycat Gatorade
* CopyCat Arizona Green Tea

A few things I’d like to share: If you’ve missed previous weeks menu notes, please be aware that the ground meat I use for recipes is generally turkey. It’s considerably less expensive and much healthier.

  1. i wish i could be like you….i am getting there i am at about 100 for 5 of us that includes 3 teens. and like you all meals ,snacks etc. still trying to find a way of making it even less. i think my biggest problem is the picky eaters

  2. You’re doing Great, $100 a Week for 5 is very good. On the picky eaters- HOW picky? Are they picky because of food allergies or food “Hates”? Which foods wont they eat- for example, one of our sons hates tomatoes (he thinks he hates tomatoes) but will eat them if they’re Cooked in something, sauces, tacos, etc.

    Who hates what, meaning.. does your spouse hate it, or just the kids? One interesting remedy I discovered for my kids “hating” something was giving them a pen and paper and making THEM figure out a menu for 1 week for the entire family. I made them write out what they Would eat- and they had to create meals based on what was already in the freezer, fridge and pantry.

    They came up with some rather interesting meals, a few things I hadn’t thought of, and it sure changed their attitudes about what was put on the table.

  3. pickiest is my husband just about no veggies for him which means (mostly my youngest 12) is not big on veggies either. so it is “hates” no allergies.
    That is a great idea for them to do plan the dinners…..now that they are older 12, 13, 18 it will be easier for them to do and understand it. I have tried to write down each day what they are to eat for breackfast and lunch but because I am not home (work full time) they do not always eat what they are told. going to buckle down on that one……they will learn to eat what we have not just what they want when they want it…..

  4. I just registered I am loving this site already!!! I spend quite a bit more and don’t think I have much breathing room to cut too much. I spend about $600 a month or about $150 a week. And I shaved $200 a month off that this last year or so from our oldest moving out her own and by breastfeeding our 8 month old and making his baby food.

    Oh yeah we have 7 kids. So I don’t think that is too too bad but I have noticed several awsome looking recipes I would love to try in place of some of my more expensive ones. And I am getting back in the swing of making my own foods again too since the baby. I use about 1/3 of my biweekly grocery money for stocking up.

  5. Wow, 7! Now that’s a full house. 🙂 When our kids were little my hunny bought me one of those little $10 mini-shopper gadgets & I used it to make baby food out of whatever we were having for dinner. I loved that thing, it was the best kitchen gadget I ever owned.

    Not only are you saving money, but it’s healthier & you know Exactly what’s in it.

    Pj, on the picky eaters, I’ll start a thread in the forum, maybe we can come up with some ideas and recipes to get around that. I read in a study that peoples tastes preferences change drastically every 7 years. I found that rather interesting, I used to loathe the taste of avocado, I’ll literally eat them with a spoon now. Maybe we can find some (cheaper) food ideas or recipes that will accommodate your hubbys tastes too!

  6. that would be great. i would love to help the best i can with my wonderful busy schedual of working full time and running with family etc…….i will admit he is getting better as he gets older……i love all the recipes you have on here i just look at them and say no they wont eat that…….but i am going to try….maybe do the i fix it you eat it or go make a peanut butter sandwich……
