2012 $50 Weekly Menu Week #17: Since we began sharing $50 weekly Menu’s we’ve received several notes from various folks stating that they didn’t believe they could apply the same techniques to their own grocery stores. So, we decided this week to pick one of the zip codes we’ve been told is “impossible” to create a $50 menu and created the menu based off the store flyer sales in that area. Without further ado- here’s a grocery list and $50 Menu based off one of our members locations . . .
First, here is a complete list of all the grocery store flyersthat we could locate online. One Member from Fredricksburg, VA (zip 22407) sent a particularly distressed email asking for assistance, Miss Vicki– This week’s menu is for you!!

You are amazing! I don’t know why this feels like rocket science to me. Part of the problem is we have to watch our carb intake and most breakfast options are high carb/low protein. I have been trying to do baked oatmeal in cupcake tins…
at least then there are some eggs and complex carbs. I can’t seem to spend less then $100/week… and I’m afraid that is on a good week. Eeek!
You inspire me to keep trying!
Thank you for your kind words! Hang in there with the carb intake, it gets a little easier the longer you do it. There are some low-carb breakfast recipes in the Fitness section of Budget101, here:

Here’s a Low carb “bisquick-type” mix that you can use to make (almost!) pancakes

If you can find eggs relatively cheap in your area, you can cook them a variety of ways with different seasonings, scrambled with salsa or jalapeno slices, in a low carb tortilla (breakfast burrito) too!
can you figure this out for the 37917 area code..knoxville,tn..sure would give me an idea where i am going with this whole thing!!
i appreciate you!!
