2012 $50 Weekly Menu Plan Week #38-Mid-September is a wonderful time of year to take advantage on fall fruits and vegetables- tomatoes can frequently be bought by the case for just a few dollars, apples, fall and winter squashes, for as little as .10 a pound and more. This week we purchased the following: milk, yogurt, 2 bushels of apples, lettuce, celery, cucumbers, fresh broccoli, cabbage, a massive cushaw squash and a family package of steaks. Total Spent $58.16
We spent the weekend all together picking apples at a gorgeous orchard a little north of us and enjoying the deals available at roadside stands on the way home. I spent more than an hour searching online for an orchard that sold 2 particular types of apples- Cortlands and McIntosh. Corts and Macs are by far, Superior cooking apples, with just the right amount of sweet/tart that is needed to make delicious pies without hoardes of sugar. When I finally found them, I decided to pick 2 bushels so I can can/freeze pie filling for later.

*Lunch: Leftover Baked Beans (From yesterday’s dinner) or grilled eggplant pizzas
*Dinner: Grilled Steak with Montreal Steak Seasoning, Baked Sweet Potato Fries, Salad
Tuesday 18th:
*Breakfast: Fruit Salad- watermelon
*Lunch: Pesto Egg Salad Wraps
*Dinner: Pesto Pull Apart Bread, Spaghetti & Meatballs
Wednesday 19th:
*Breakfast: Scrambled Eggs, Toast
*Lunch: Meatball Subs
*Dinner: Fall Harvest Casserole, Salad
Thursday 20th:
*Breakfast: Cinnamon Apple Raisin Oatmeal
*Lunch: Chipotle Egg Salad Wraps
*Dinner: Thai Veggie Ramen Stir Fry
Friday 21st:
*Breakfast: Donut Muffins
*Lunch: Garden Salad
*Dinner: Campfire Pig Greens, Fire Roasted Taters with Onions, Garlic, Jalapeno Peppers
Saturday 22nd:
*Breakfast: Cinnamon Raisin French Toast
* Lunch– Cabbage Chicken Saute, rolls
*Midday – Chicken Spiedies, Pasta Salad, Watermelon
Sunday 23rd:
*Breakfast: Harvest Peach Jam Breakfast Bars
*Midday: Get Together with Friends/ Football Party! Bringing tailgate bites & Individual Apple Pies
Various Snacks & Dessert Items:
* Cinnamon Apple Cherry Cheeseball& Apple slices
* Muffins
* Yogurt
* Chewy Granola Bars
* Deviled Eggs

A few things I’d like to share:
If you’re new to our site, you might be wondering why we use so many eggs in our weekly menu, we raise chickens an are currently getting nearly 2 dozen eggs per day! As a healthy, dirt cheap food source, we incorporate them into our menus daily.
We are still harvesting fresh jalapenos, eggplant, figs, watermelon, sweet potatoes from our garden, and now abundantly picking bell peppers again. We also have fresh basil, cilantro, thyme and several other herbs that are growing well in our garden.
