I`m new to this site.
My DH and I are retired and are on limited incomes. Therefore, I try to find ways to stretch our food bill.
We both have health problems and I`m not able to do much cooking. We get meals on wheels 5 days a week, and there is a home health care provider that comes 3 afternoons a week and cooks dinner for us. On the weekends I try to fix something that can be cooked in the crock pot, so I won`t have to be in the kitchen so much. However, I do need receipes that are easy, quick to fix as well as healthy.
One of the ways I stretch my food budget is saving any food from meals on wheels to fix another way. For instance, if we don`t eat all of carrots, peas or beans, I will put it in a container and put it the freezer to fix as sheppard pie or a pot pie. I have also shredded baked potatoes and fixed hash browns with them. Any biscuits or rolls from meals on wheels that we don`t eat at lunch, I will put in a freezer bag and put them in the fridge.
I will take them out at some time during the week and put butter on them and toast them in the toaster oven and have them with our breakfast.
However, I do need receipes that are easy, quick to fix as well as healthy. Does anyone here have any?
