• Mega Meatball Sub

    Family Size Sub Create your own family size Mega Meatball sub! This filling sandwich will feed 4-6 easily for around $5!

    Ingredients:
    2 c. Spaghetti Sauce, any kind you like
    1 c. Shredded Mozzarella
    1/4 c. Grated Parmesan
    1/4 c. Italian Bread Crumbs
    1 tsp minced garlic
    2 lbs ground turkey (or ground beef)
    1 egg
    1 loaf italian bread

    Preheat oven to 375F
    In a large bowl mix ground turkey, egg, minced garlic, bread crumbs and parmesan cheese. Form into a log, flatten slightly (to fit the size of the bread). Cook for 12 minutes, remove from oven, FLIP and return to oven for an additional 10-12 minutes.

    While the meatball is cooking, heat the sauce in a small saucepan on the stovetop. Split the italian loaf and spread lightly with garlic butter. (I use about 4 T of butter w/ 2 tsp minced garlic). During the last 4 minutes of cooking, place the garlic bread in the oven WITH the mega meatball.

    mega meatball sub recipe Take both out of the oven, place the meatball on the bread, cover with the sauce and sprinkle liberally with mozarella cheese. Return to oven for 5 minutes or until cheese is melted. Cut into 6-8 Pieces, serve.

    Spaghetti Sauce . . . .72
    Shredded Mozzarella .75
    Grated Parmesan .20
    Italian Bread Crumbs .15
    1 tsp minced garlic .02
    2 lbs ground turkey (or ground beef) 2.28 (at $1.14 regular price per pkg at Aldi's)
    1 egg (Free- we have chickens) or .15 (based on walmarts current Price as of 3-18-11)
    1 loaf italian bread $1.00 (walmart)

    Total cost of meal to feed 6 people: $5.12 or .85 per person

    Other tips and tricks: If you have very little meat, you can actually make this stretch by using less meat and more bread crumbs and an additional egg.
