Grocery Prices are on the rise, which is no surprise to those of us who have to plan the menu! We’re going to continue to strive to help others reduce their grocery expense so they put their hard earned cash towards other things, like heating bills. If you’ve lived in one area for a long time and you have a tendency to shop at the same stores over and over, it can seem like there aren’t any deals to be found, but take heart, as this new member is about to discover- you CAN reduce your grocery bill with just a tiny bit of effort. . .

New Member Trisannd wrote, “Hi, I live in a very small town called Eden in North Carolina….my zip code is 27288. The economy is horrible here and everything is going up but wages. My husband is on medicare and I work at the local hospital in supplies making a little more than minimum wage…can you help us get groceries for $50 or less….right now we spend about $100 a week!!!! The only stores we have here are Food Lion and Wal-Mart….there is a Sam’s Club about 45 minutes away

Dear Trisha, we completely understand your frustration regarding the economy and the ever rising prices of just about everything. With that in mind, we still managed to find some great deals this week for your area . . .

Filled with an insatiable wanderlust to see the world, I've dedicated most of my life to saving money where I can so I can afford to see and do the things I want. I dug our family out of debt by reducing our grocery expense to less than $300 a month. You can too!

  1. Thank you so much for all this wonderful information! I can’t believe you did all this for me! I really appreciate it and I’m definitely checking out the Aldi store tomorrow….thanks again, Trisha:tinyheart:

You’re very welcome, I hope that the info helps your family. I think (hard) cheese is also on sale for $1.49 this week, it is at all the Aldi in SC, but It’s one of those “Unadvertised” deals.

The other thing is, depending on what’s available in your area, you might have to visit Aldi on different days to see a better selection. For us, our Aldi is fully stocked on Tuesdays- but frequently “Wiped out” on thursdays. So if you happen to get there on a slim pickings kind of day, ask them what day the produce typically arrives and what day the meat arrives (they mark the meat down the day before delivery to make room, which means great deals on chicken, pork, sandwich fixings’ and sausage on a regular basis.

Best wishes to your family in 2013!

  2. I’ve read a lot of blogs about frugal cooking, and many recommend ALDI as a good cheap grocery store. Unfortunately, there is not one anywhere near me. I live in Ponchatoula, LA (zipcode 70454) and I have a family of 7 . We are finding it difficult to come under $700/month as a grocery budget.

I’d love to see the grocery budget y’all could do with the stores I frequent. These are Winn Dixie (in Ponchatoula 70454), Walmart Supercenter (in Hammond 70401, a town about 15 miles from me) and Target (Hammond 70403).

  3. Really trying to pull the budget together this year! I’m now a stay at home mom and the budget has been gutted. We are a family of five dealing with wheat and dairy allergies, along with other picky eaters. I feel like a short order cook most days!

I use Dierbergs, Target, Shop N Save, aldi’s, and Anthony’s- local farmers market when it’s open March-December. Any help would be fantastic! Love your book!
