This Deep Dish Chocolate Chip Cookie Pie has everything to satisfy your sweet cravings, with a nearly unbelievable twist.. it’s actually Healthy. . .
This dairy free, gluten free recipe is a high in fiber and protein, yet low in fat. I originally spotted this amazing recipe on ChocolateCoveredKatie and decided to revise it just a touch to lower the sugar content, although to be perfectly fair, she also offers a scrumptious sugar-free version as well!

This healthy version is only 250 calories per slice, as opposed to upwards of 725 calories for traditional cookie pie, alternatively, see our note at the bottom for reducing the calories to 205 per slice! You absolutely cannot taste the beans in this recipe, it simply tastes like decadent chocolate cookie pie.

You’ll Need:
3 Cups of Prepared Garbanzo aka Chickpeas (Or 2 cans Garbanzos that have been drained and well rinsed)
1 cup quick oats
1/4 cup unsweetened applesauce
3 tbsp Coconut oil (or vegetable oil of your choice)
2 tsp pure vanilla extract
1/2 tsp baking soda
2 tsp baking powder
1/2 tsp salt
1 1/3 cups brown sugar
1 Tbs. Molasses (optional)
1 cup semisweet chocolate chips

Preheat Oven to 350F

Combine all ingredients (except the chocolate chips) in a food processor. If you don’t have a food processor you and try a blender, but it doesn’t work very well. This is best done with your family Out of the room- after all, you don’t want them to see your special secret ingredients! deep-dish-cookie-pie

Stir in the chocolate chips, mixing well. As you can see from my photo, I prepared my garbanzo beans from dried beans (which is why the chocolate chips are quickly melting!), rather than canned. Canned garbanzo beans have an “off” flavor to me, are lower in protein than dried and cost more. You can read more about how to prepare dried garbanzo beans here.

Pour the cookie mixture into a pan that has been sprayed well with non-stick spray, I used a 10″ (springform) cheesecake pan. Bake for 35-40 minutes, remove from oven and let set for at least 10 minutes before cutting or removing from pan.

Slice into 12 equal pieces and enjoy!

  • If you prefer to lower the Calorie count even more, you can use an equal amount of White Beans rather than Garbanzo (chick peas) Beans.

  1. It states that the “white bean version” is less calories, but then when you look at the nutritional information, the white bean version is only 54.3 grams, but the garbanzo bean version is 91 grams? So, is that REALLY a difference in calories or simply serving size?

    • I want to make this but I am allergic to apples what can I substitute instead of applesauce?

you can substitute any fruit, look for a jar of baby food, it’s fine like applesauce, I would use pears or plum.
