• 2013 $50 Weekly Menu Plan Week #34

    2013 $50 Weekly Menu Plan Week #34: School is back in session and like every other family in America, we're just looking for the quickest, easiest, least expensive meals we can whip up.
    It's been awhile since we've done a meat restocking week and we're still planning on doing one around Labor day weekend, which is when the prices of meat traditionally go on sale. So this week we picked up the following: artisan lettuce, celery, feta cheese, fresh brussel sprouts, bananas, apples, cream cheese,
    generic rice krispies, almond milk, sour cream, heavy cream, cantaloupe (they are GIANT here at the farmers markets!) whole pineapple (for $1- who wouldn't buy it??), raisins, flavored gelatins (strawberry/raspberry/watermelon), Total spent $31.13 the remaining balance of our weekly allotted budget will roll over into our Meat Restocking week and be used to fill the freezers.

    Things from the garden: Carrots, beets, jalapeno peppers, 2 big zucchini we didn't expect!, okra, squash

    Breakfast Options for this week:

    In addition to the lunch menu options below, we also make Italian Pasta Salad at the beginning of the week- the kids love to munch this afterschool. We also have PB & J on hand, Egg Salad, etc. Here's a tip for you on the egg salad, make a huge batch of plain egg salad, then add any variety of seasonings to a small portion of it to make various flavors. Here are 18 different recipes you can try.

    * Coffee
    * Hot Chocolate/Cocoa
    * Iced Coffee Drinks
    * Almond Milk
    * Lemonade

    Less Likely to be used, but still available:
    * Copycat Gatorade
    * CopyCat Arizona Green Tea

    FYI: The corn on the cob mentioned in this weeks menu was purchase a few weeks ago, blanched and frozen. The brussel sprouts we got from a neighbor who had them growing abundantly in her garden, so we traded even steven for a big bucket of Jalapeno peppers. As always, eggs are not listed because we raise chickens and get 2-3 dozen fresh eggs per day. Oftentimes the kids could a couple eggs for breakfast, which is a great healthy protein boost since they both weight lift.
