• 2013 $50 Weekly Menu Plan Week #48

2013 $50 Weekly Menu Plan Week #48: Happy Thanksgiving! This weeks menu plan focuses on celebrating the holiday within a reasonable budget. . .

From the Farmers Market & Store: Artisan Lettuce, apples, cream cheese, celery, bell peppers, fresh cranberries, cabbage, bananas, Turkeys, walnuts

    Total spent $43.56

Our garden has come to and end for the season as I forgot to cover the tender plants and the frost took them overnight. I cannot complain, we harvested literally hundreds of peppers and tomatoes this year.

From our Backyard: Fresh Eggs- even the eggs are becoming scarce as many of our chickens are molting and others seem to have taken an extreme disliking to the colder weather that is settling in for winter.

The least expensive way to have a great Thanksgiving bash is, of course, to hold a potluck style dinner. If you happen to be hosting the dinner, prepare the turkey and have your guests bring a favorite side dish. Or, consider having a dinner just for the immediate family, then hold a "dessert" party later in the evening. (Where each guest brings a favorite dessert to share).

Breakfast Options for this week: Fresh Bananas, apples

We're really not all that elaborate on breakfast. Most of the household prefers coffee & toast, even our teens, who frequently just grab a piece of fresh fruit to eat mid-morning.

FYI: When preparing recipes, if you don't happen to have all the ingredients on hand, substitute with something similar. For example, this week we're having the winter fruit salad, but we didn't grab any pears or grapes, so we're using apples, dried cranberries and a few walnuts instead.
