Nutter Butter Reindeer Cookie Pops

These are great for holiday parties or for “You’ve Been Frosted” / Secret Santa gifts!
You’ll Need:
1 pkg Peanut Butter Cookies (Nutter-butter style cookies)
1 pkg Semi-sweet or Milk Chocolate Chips (your choice)
1 Tbs Solid Shortening
white M&M’s for the eyes
red M&M’s for the Nose
small Pretzels (for the antlers)
Popsicle/ Craft Sticks
Optional- 1 Black Gel Pen (for the dots in the eyes)

Carefully break the pretzels to make “antlers” (as they appear in the photo) and set them aside.

Melt the chocolate & solid shortening together in a double boiler over low heat.

If you don’t happen to have a double boiler, you can place the chocolate in a microwave safe dish and place it in the microwave for 30 seconds, remove, stir well, place it back in the microwave for another 30 seconds, remove, stir well, add the shortening. Heat another 30 seconds, remove, stir well. Repeat until the chocolate is completely melted but do NOT overheat and do not heat it for longer than 30 seconds at a time. Chocolate is very picky, it burns easily and if it doesn’t burn it may Bloom (which is when the fats separate).

Insert popsicle sticks into the bottom of each cookie about halfway by sliding it between the cookie layers into the soft peanut butter middle.

Carefully Dip the cookie into the chocolate. Lay the dipped cookie on a piece of parchment paper and quickly add a red M&M for a nose and White M&M’s for eyes. Dip one end of the “antler’ into chocolate and attach it the head. This gives the reindeer “ears” as well as adorable antlers.

For the iris in the eye, you can either dot it with a black gel pen or you can make a dot of chocolate in the middle. The easiest way to do this is to dip the blunt end of a craft paintbrush into the chocolate or a shish kebab stick, then “dot” the center of the eye.

Repeat until you run out of ingredients.

Makes about 24 (depending on how much “help” you have in the kitchen taste-testing as you go.

:Note: A word about some of the ingredients… colored m&m’s are usually available in the candy aisle of your favorite grocery store throughout the holiday season. The Decorators gel pen is usually found in the baking aisle near cake mixes or can be purchased online. We’ve provided an alternate “eyeball” in the bottom of the recipe. The popsicle/craft sticks can usually be found in large boxes in the craft section of most stores for under $5 and are great to have on hand for various projects and edibles.
