Do you love the crispy goodness of onion rings, but trying to avoid fried foods? Say no more, here’s a simple way to get that sinfully delicious flavor, without the hassle and mess of frying!
You’ll Need:
1-2 Very large Vidalia Onions, peeled, sliced, and separated into rings
2 egg whites
2 tablespoons milk
1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
1/2 teaspoon cayenne pepper
2 cups bread crumbs
1/3 cup flour
salt + pepper, to taste
cooking spray & Aluminum Foil
Preheat the oven to 450F
Line a large cookie sheet with tin foil and spray it generously with Cooking spray, I use an Olive Oil Misto, then set aside.
Combine the egg whites and milk in a bowl, whisking well to incorporate. In a gallon size zipclose bag, combine breadcrumbs, flour, salt, pepper, cayenne pepper, and garlic powder, mixing well. Add the sliced onion rings into the bag of seasoning, seal and shake well to coat. Transfer the rings to a bowl, but do not dump the seasoning out of the bag just yet!
Dip the seasoned onion rings into the egg/milk mixture, making sure they are completely and evenly coated and then again into the seasoning mix, coating them well. This is the key to crispy Onion rings!
Once coated lay them onto the prepared cookie sheet in a single layer, without touching. Spray the rings Generously! with cooking spray and bake them for about 20-24 minutes. Or until they reach the desired crispness.
Serve with Copycat Outback Steakhouse Onion Ring Dipping Sauce!
The best part, this entire recipe costs less than $2.25 to make!
